“Season of Goodness – Olive Harvest Season” Initiative

“Season of Goodness – Olive Harvest Season” Initiative

The initiative celebrates the olive harvest as one of Palestine’s most significant national and social seasons, embodying attachment to the land, collective work, solidarity, joy, and the intergenerational transmission of knowledge.

It includes an annual Olive Harvest Festival at Youth Village, bringing together young people, families, farmers, elders, and volunteers in a heritage setting that recreates the season’s traditions. Activities include olive picking and pressing, preparing traditional foods, singing seasonal songs and chants, performing dabke, and exhibiting traditional agricultural tools, crafts, and local products.

The initiative also launches the “Fazaa” Campaign to support farmers and their families during the olive harvest and in caring for their land. Youth groups, councils, and volunteers participate, reviving fazaa and awana as Palestinian traditions of cooperation and communal solidarity.

The initiative documents the stories, songs, rituals, and farmers’ experiences associated with the olive season through photography, film, oral history, and digital content. It thereby reinforces the transmission of this heritage and affirms the olive tree as a symbol of Palestinian land, identity, and resilience.
