From Training to Simulation… “Model United Nations in Gaza” Builds Youth Skills

In partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Sharek Youth Forum implemented the “Model United Nations in Gaza” initiative, with the participation of 30 law students from Palestine, Al-Aqsa, and Al-Azhar Universities.

Over three days, participants took part in training sessions on the Model United Nations, where they explored the roles of countries and the procedures of UN sessions, while developing their public speaking, dialogue, analytical, and discussion skills.

The participants then moved from training to practical application through a full simulation of a UN session addressing the genocide in Gaza and countries’ positions on it. They delivered statements, discussed different positions, and represented the roles of various countries, applying the knowledge and skills they gained throughout the experience.

The initiative took place amid the difficult circumstances facing universities in Gaza and the absence of in-person education, providing young people with an opportunity to continue learning, engage in dialogue, and develop their communication and discussion skills despite the challenging circumstances.

The initiative concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants in recognition of their participation and completion of the experience.

Through the “Model United Nations in Gaza” initiative, young people turned what they learned into a practical experience that enabled them to express their positions, engage with issues affecting their reality, and develop their knowledge and skills in dialogue and analysis.
