Concept and Approach

Majd Journey: A National Model for Adolescent Empowerment (2017–Present)

Since 2017, the Majd Journey Program has been shaping a new approach to adolescent development in Palestine. While many initiatives focus primarily on either children or older youth, Majd Journey places adolescents—girls and boys aged 11–16—at the center, recognizing this stage as critical, often underserved, and deeply influential in shaping lifelong wellbeing, identity, and responsible citizenship. “Majd” is intentionally used as a unisex name—Majd the girl and Majd the boy—to reflect an inclusive vision and to reinforce core values that must be rooted at this age, most importantly equality, justice, and a healthy understanding of social roles and responsibilities.

Implemented across the West Bank and Gaza, the programme is delivered in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and a network of local organizations within the Sharek Partners Alliance. Together, these partnerships ensure strong community ownership and sustained delivery through both schools and community-based spaces.

A Comprehensive Approach to Holistic Wellbeing and Responsible Citizenship

Majd Journey equips adolescents with knowledge and life skills that respond to their lived reality and everyday challenges. The programme covers topics related to holistic health, mental health, adolescent wellbeing, social norms and gender roles, and positive community engagement—supporting young people to build healthier habits, stronger relationships, and a clearer sense of self.

Tools That Make the Majd Experience Unique

Majd Diaries (3 Editions)

A set of interactive booklets filled with activities that help adolescents explore:
• holistic and mental health
• society, relationships, and everyday challenges
• gender roles and social expectations
• how to become an aware, responsible citizen capable of creating positive change

Autism Inclusion Guide

A dedicated guide developed specifically to support engaging adolescents on the autism spectrum, ensuring more inclusive and accessible learning spaces and helping facilitators adapt activities to participants’ needs.

Parents’ Guide

A guide designed to help reduce the communication gap that often emerges during adolescence, shared with parents through awareness sessions to strengthen family support and healthier dialogue.

Majd App

An interactive digital application with educational games and activities that reinforce diary topics through engaging, digitized learning media.

Two Complementary Delivery Pathways: Schools and Community Centers

In Schools

The programme is delivered through trained school counselors, equipped to use Majd tools and guide adolescents through the full learning journey in school settings.

In Community Centers

Majd Journey is also implemented through community centers by training facilitators from within the centers themselves—strengthening local ownership and sustainability in both the West Bank and Gaza.

Growing with Adolescents: A Living, Age-Responsive Model

Majd Journey is designed to evolve as adolescents grow. Its characters and content develop across ages, reflecting changing needs and realities—addressing topics such as bullying, self-care and hygiene, mental health, relationships, and everyday pressures.

Majd Summer Camps: Learning Through Experience and Expression

Majd Journey extends beyond sessions through Majd Summer Camps during school holidays. Camps combine:
• sports activities promoting teamwork, resilience, and physical wellbeing
• educational and skills-based learning activities
• creative arts for self-expression, including film-making and photography, theatre and acting, and youth-led storytelling

A National Model for an Aware, Responsible Generation

Through its integrated tools, partnerships, and delivery pathways, Majd Journey has grown into a national model for preparing a generation that is more aware, responsible, and capable of positive change—across the West Bank and Gaza. Its strength lies in a comprehensive approach that supports adolescents not only to gain knowledge, but to practice healthy behaviors, communicate better, understand their roles in society, and contribute meaningfully to stronger communities.
