Jordan Valley Youth Council… A Youth Network Uniting Villages and Building Hope

In the Palestinian Jordan Valley, where villages stretch across plains and valleys, young people live amid significant developmental challenges and daily hardships. Yet from this reality emerged a simple but powerful idea: What if the youth of these villages united to work together for their communities?

From this idea, the journey of the Jordan Valley Youth Council began. What started as a youth-led initiative bringing together the energy and aspirations of young people has grown into a vibrant community network spanning twelve villages across the Palestinian Jordan Valley, including:
Kardala, Bardala, Ein Al-Beida, Marj Na’ja, Marj Al-Ghazal, Al-Nuwei’ma, Al-Duyuk, Fasayel Al-Fouqa, Fasayel Al-Tahta, Froush Beit Dajan, Al-Zubeidat, and Al-Auja, along with the participation of youth from other nearby communities.

The establishment of the council was not merely an organizational step; it was the beginning of a local youth movement that promotes initiative, cooperation, and collective action. Young people succeeded in transforming the geographical distances between villages into a network of collaboration, coordination, and volunteer work.

Initiatives That Made a Difference

Since its establishment, the council has launched several initiatives aimed at serving local communities and strengthening youth participation. Among the most notable are:

Youth Caravan in the Jordan Valley
A field initiative that traveled across villages and communities in the Jordan Valley. Through awareness sessions and training activities, young people and adolescents were engaged in learning opportunities that helped enhance knowledge and life skills.

Community Safety Team Initiative
The council trained a group of young volunteers in first aid and emergency response skills, helping to strengthen the culture of community safety in rural villages and Bedouin communities.

Community Volunteer Initiatives
Dozens of volunteer activities were organized, including community clean-up campaigns, school support initiatives, and local events that strengthened the spirit of cooperation and belonging among youth.

Dialogue with Institutions and Decision-Makers
The council’s role extended beyond volunteer work. It also helped amplify the voice of youth by organizing meetings and dialogues with local institutions to discuss key issues such as education, development, and employment opportunities in the Jordan Valley.

Impact Beyond Initiatives

The true impact of the council goes beyond the initiatives it has implemented. Its greatest achievement lies in building a network of young leaders capable of leading community work in their villages. The council has become a platform that brings youth together around a shared vision: serving their communities and strengthening the resilience of the Jordan Valley.

It has also helped strengthen solidarity between villages, as youth now collaborate in organizing initiatives, sharing experiences, and exchanging skills within a spirit of collective action and partnership.

A Model for Local Youth Engagement

Today, the Jordan Valley Youth Council represents an inspiring model of youth-led community work in rural areas. Young people have demonstrated that challenges can be transformed into opportunities, and that initiative and collective effort can create meaningful change.

The story of the council is ultimately the story of a generation that believes cooperation can build a better future—and that the Jordan Valley is not merely a geographical region, but a vibrant community whose future is being shaped by its youth.
