“Once Upon a Time”… When Elders Tell Stories and Youth Document Them
The Youth Village hosted the creative initiative “Once Upon a Time” with Palestinian-Australian director Suheil Dahdall. This youth-led initiative aims to preserve national heritage and document stories as told by the elders, with young participants taking on the roles of filming, directing, and recording — a creative blend of modernity and the essence of the past.
More than 25 young men and women from various governorates participated in this unique experience, forming a portrait of belonging and creativity. This is an extension of the “Hakawati” initiative, which previously contributed to reviving the Palestinian oral storytelling tradition.
“Once Upon a Time” is not just an initiative—it’s a promise to preserve memory and pass stories from generation to generation using modern tools and an authentic spirit.
