Dental Clinic for Bedouin Communities / Smile

The Smail initiative provides essential dental care and awareness sessions for children in four Bedouin communities across the West Bank. Led by the Al-Quds University Dental Students’ Union, the initiative focuses on educating children about the importance of oral hygiene and preventive care.

Fifteen dental students participated in the initiative, benefiting 103 individuals from Abu Nuwar, Abu Hindi, and two additional communities in Jericho—Tariqah and Al-Rashaida. Among the beneficiaries, 55 were female and 48 were male. With a strong emphasis on children’s health, over 90% of the participants were between 5 and 15 years old, while less than 10% were over 16. Parents were also involved, as their engagement is key to encouraging good dental habits at home.

Alongside dental check-ups, the team conducted interactive awareness sessions and distributed toothbrushes and toothpaste. Community members responded enthusiastically, expressing the need for more initiatives like this to expand access to essential healthcare services.
